Birdwatching on and near Hilton Head Island.........

Hilton Head Island is a great place for birdwatching, especially during the fall and spring migrations, and the winter season. In addition to easily accessible birdwatching on the island, Hilton Head Island is within easy striking distance of three other major birding areas:

We've enjoyed great birdwatching near our houses located at 9 Scaup Court and 19 Wren Drive in the Sea Pines Plantation (South Beach) area of Hilton Head. There's a lagoon between the houses that is a great place to observe the antics of the pelicans in the winter (taking off, flying, crashing into the lagoon....again, and again, and again - check out my video), as well as various other shorebirds. Nearby is Braddock Cove, which is a great place to look for shorebirds (and the occasional dolphin) between mid-tide and low tide. We're happy to rent our homes to birdwatchers, who can enjoy birdwatching and the amenities of our homes at off-season rates. (By the way, for those of you that enjoy armchair birding, we keep birdfeeders at both houses. Fill these up with black oil sunflower seed or "red bird mix" (a blend of safflower and sunflower seed) and enjoy the show.)

We'll also be keeping a personal bird blog and notes about where we found each species and (strictly amateur) photographs and linking these on this web page.
